DAVID M. GIVEN is a partner specializing in entertainment and intellectual property law and commercial litigation.  His clients include individuals and business entities engaged in a wide-range of activities -- music and merchandising, film and television, video gaming, internet and other broadcast media, real estate and software development, among others.  He has been a panelist and featured speaker at various events, including the National Academy of Recording Arts and Science's Grammy in the Schools Program, the Practicing Law Institute ("Litigating Copyright, Trademark and Unfair Competition Cases"), the Sedona Conference ("Recent Developments in Entertainment Industry Litigation"), the South by Southwest Music Conference ("Demo, Development and Baby Band Deals"), the Gamer Technology Law Conference ("The Future of Gaming") and the Hastings Entertainment Law Symposium. Together with Steve Tapia of Microsoft, he co-chaired the  Entertainment Technology Law Summit in Seattle, which brought together executives and attorneys from the entertainment and technology industries. In August 2007 The American Bar Association chose him to moderate a Presidential Showcase Program for its Annual Meeting . Entitled "Privacy, Copyright and Parental Control in the Age of YouTube, MySpace and Beyond," the program featured speakers from Google/YouTube, Facebook.com and LucasFilm. Mr. Given's opinion has been sought on entertainment industry-related matters by various news media, including SF Weekly, CNN and TechTV.  For four consecutive Spring semesters, from 1999 to 2002, he was a Lecturer-in-Law at the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), where he continues to guest speak on entertainment industry related topics.  A highlight of his career was meeting and interviewing the late musician and composer Frank Zappa .
