Firm files suit for former SF Giants outfielder against Oracle Park

November 10, 2020 – Partner Randy Erlewine today announced the firm’s filing of a lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court on behalf of former San Francisco Giants outfielder Johnathan “Mac” Williamson against China Basin Ballpark Company, LLC, the owner and operator of Oracle Park. The case arises from concussion-related injuries the client suffered while playing left field during a game in 2018, when he crashed into the bullpen mound while running full speed attempting to catch a foul ball, colliding headfirst into the left field line wall. The lawsuit contends that the bullpen should not have been in the field of play, where it exposed the client and other major league players to an unreasonable and unnecessary risk of harm. At the time of the collision, Mac was a top prospect for the Giants and one of the hottest power hitters in major league baseball. Since the collision, Mac has suffered through certain long-term concussion effects, including vision problems and other issues, which have had devastating, career-ending impacts on him. “This injury never should have happened,” Mr. Erlewine said in this morning’s press conference. “Based on Mac’s talent level and performance, we believe that he stood to earn tens of millions of dollars as is common with many major league power hitting outfielders.” Mac’s comments were more succinct: “My life in baseball has effectively come to an end.” Various press outlets, including Law360, ESPN, the San Francisco Chronicle, and KPIX have covered the matter. Additional proceedings are pending.
