Court grants final approval of restaurant worker settlement

December 13, 2019 – San Francisco Superior Court Judge Teri L Jackson today granted final approval of the class action settlement reached by the firm on behalf of approximately 150 former workers of Burritt Room + Tavern in San Francisco, a popular San Francisco bar/restaurant located in the Mystic Hotel by Charlie Palmer, which was sold by its owners last year. The $1 million class action settlement had a 100% participation rate — following notice to class members, no one objected to or requested to be excluded from the settlement. In her approval order, Judge Jackson found the settlement to be “fair, reasonable, and adequate.” In a separate order entered the same day, Judge Jackson approved the attorney’s fees requested by the firm and service awards sought for the class representatives, finding the requested attorney’s fees justified given “the quality of the representation, the benefits obtained for the class and the results achieved.” Payment to class members is expected shortly. The workers’ case was handled by partners David Given and Nick Carlin, with the assistance of senior associate Brian Conlon.
